Big Improvement Day
Each year on the Third Tuesday of September the Dutch Queen delivers the State Opening of Parliament. Started in 2008, the Netherlands has welcomed a new tradition on the Third Tuesday of January: the Big Improvement Day, BID. Only the highest ranking of public officers and entrepreneurs are invited to attend this event to share their visions and develop a mutual understanding on sustainability, entrepreneurship, leadership and education. On this unique day great ideas are given a chance, dreams are translated, partnerships are formed and people network at the very highest level. Positivism and creativity are the two core values which lay at the heart of this event.
During the six editions of BID a wide range of prominent people committed themselves to inspire others, and help promising dreams to come alive. Among them were BCD’s John Fentener van Vlissingen, football coach Louis van Gaal, CEO of Rig Investments Henk Keilman, former CEO Exact Software Raj Patel, Minister of Finance Jan-Kees de Jager, the blind adventurer Miles Hilton-Barber, Member Board of Management Decorative Paints AkzoNobel Tex Gunning, former NATO-General Wesley K. Clark, Virgin’s CEO Sir Richard Branson, Climate Advisor KPMG Yvo de Boer, the SER chairman Alexander Rinnooy Kan, Creative Thinker Edward the Bono, President and Managing Director Facebook Joanna Shields, President-Director Shell Netherlands Dick Benschop and Minister of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation Maxime Verhagen.
The market has reacted with great enthusiasm. Positive changes are occurring which will result in a truly unique and genuinely enlightening conference between CEOs, leaders from the Dutch government, creative thinkers, world improvers and countless exceptional entrepreneurs. BID will be the catalyst for new forms of cooperation and will stimulate its visitors to join forces together.
The eighth edition of the Big Improvement Day will take place on January 20th, 2015. Once more a select group of prestigious individuals met each other in Amsterdam to be inspired by speakers of national and international allure. Again, on the third day of January, several unique collaborations between our business community and government were realized. A range of prominent individuals were present to inspire others: not only follow your dreams but find support in the actions of fellow visionaries.
We look forward to the eighth edition of the Big Improvement Day in 2015, which will be an even greater success than the editions before.
